Starting to get this blog webpage thing sorted out. Going to be doing a bit of a redesign on a couple of different pages to sort out some of the different things people may be interested in, in stead of jamming them all under the same non-descriptive title of first blog.
So under #CigarSundays we ( the royal we) will be discussing Cigars and Beverages ( if you have two hands, they should both be in use when having a cigar).
So the first thing to get out of the way, why, if you are doing all this physical exercise are you smoking? Smoking obviously effects your lungs, throat, heart etc, and seems anti productive to your efforts for a more healthy lifestyle.
To this I say 'yeah SO, YEAH SO!' haha ( if you know what movie that short little exchange comes from i will be impressed).
I started smoking cigars in University. Ahhh University days of arguing things that really mattered ( could Batman be Batman if it was someone else under the cowl), trying new things and starting to figure out that you actually know very little about the world around you. Good times.
But I started smoking them because, well, it was cool. Or at least i thought it was cool. My first one was awful. I tried to smoke it like a cigarette and shortly after completely destroyed the washroom of whatever party i was at. ( sorry nameless person, it suprised me as much as it did you that smoking a cigar could cause such as aggressive reaction). oopsie.
But over the years I have had an occasional one, weddings, birthdays, bachelor parties, and then for probably 10 years not a one. I think the birth of our kids, coupled with not wanting to add another vice to my potato chip and pepsi addiction was another reason.
But as i moved along after the diabetes diagnosis and started to manage my weight and then not manage my weight to now really trying to have a lifestyle change I have added the weekly opportunity of having a cigar.
So if i complete all my workouts each week, I reward myself with a cigar and a beverage ( typically a scotch or whiskey as i have found they pair most beautifully).
This is not for everyone ( obviously) but as i no longer have the crunchy, salty deliciousness of chips (mmmmmmm chiiiiiips) this allows me the chance to be bad. And who doesnt like doing something occasionally, that is completely bad for them?
So there you have it, my most recent indulgence, but to be fair, i really look forward to it and i think, especially on those tough days when I can come up with 100 excuses not to go to the gym or pool, the chance to have a cigar, more often then not, gives me that extra push to go. Weird, I know. But I have also not given myself a cigar when I didnt reach my workout goals for the week.
I am proud to say there will be a #CigarSunday today, as i had a very good week!
Until next time, smoke em if you got em!
