So this week of vacation did not start out great. The weather was awful, I had work stuff that I wanted to get done, and oh yeah the weather sucked.
On the upside, I did finally get my motorcycle test written and got to do some cool wood working projects with my son for 4H turn in day. It was really cool to see him ( through some serious sighing, and a few complaints) accomplish a couple of projects. Friend of the show and woodworking guru Rob was awesome helping work through these projects, so thanks again Rob!!!!
By Friday though, the weather started to turn back into summer and after a serious and much needed lawn mowing, pool cleaning, and many loads of laundry, I was ready for some actual downtime on the weekend.
Saturday was great, and just what I was looking for all week. Chores and work out done by noon, then it was a steady rotation of laying in the sun listening to tunes with a beer, and jumping in the pool to cool off. We were having a good day, and decided to head to Pictou on Sunday to spend the day at the cottage. The cottage is owned by Daphne's aunt and uncle in #godscountry Pictou County, Caribou to be more specific and it is one of my all time favorite places to go in the summer. It has an amazing beach and sand bar, and there is always kids and cousins for our kids to play with so the adults can have a sit, a chat and possibly a beverage.
Some of my best summer memories since moving to Nova Scotia involve times at the cottage, Currieoke's, weddings, washer toss and bocce ball tournaments on the sand bar, poker tournaments, and listening to the many hilarious Currie family stories that have happened over the years.
So heading out I decided to take my last two cigars that I havent tried from Toronto. One for myself and one for Uncle Dan. Dan has been known to enjoy a cigar or two and I figured he would like this one. It is a Don Thomas Nicaragua Robusto. I also brought along my bottle of Tomatin 12 year Single Malt.
Dan doesnt drink, but I was planning on having a "one for my homie" moment while we were there.
We had a fantastic day at the beach, there were a few of Daphne's family and extended family already on the beach when we got there and our kids were sunscreened and poof, gone, to play with their cousin Madison and a bunch of other kids on the beach.
After some swimming around in the ocean, seriously did not want to get out, and totally plan to do a point to point swim ( about 1km) next time we go back. It was time to hit the beach and have #cigarSunday.
I got the cigars cut and scotch poured at the cottage, took a couple of pics, as seen above, and cheers the sky and poured out one of the glasses of scotch for the departed. I brought the Tomatin as it was the last scotch that Toby and family bought for me and I wanted to make sure that we still got to enjoy one together this summer at the cottage.
First impression of the cigar was wow. This Don Thomas Nicaragua had a fantastic flavor, was easy to light and the draw was very smooth. Dan and I both enjoyed the smoothness of it. These cigars paired very well with the light spicy and citrus notes of the Tomatin, plus the sun and company could not be beat. It was a very close to perfect day. Daphne's uncle Freddie and family there as well and jumped on board to give the Tomatin a try.
It is always a blessing when you can share a cigar and a scotch, a laugh in such a beautiful location with friends and family and I although it was a great day, there is always a bit of sadness when it is over.
A few hugs, hose down the sand filled children and we were back on the road to the Nish.
Nothing like an afternoon of salt air to have a fantastic sleep, which i would have had if I wasnt burnt to a crisp hahaha. Not the best at remembering the ol sunscreen. Ouchie.
