So Im stunned, didnt realize until today that this did not post when i wrote it on the weekend. So I have to rewrite this post and try again. So this past week we ( the royal we) had #cigarSaturday because Sunday was not forecast to be as nice in terms of the weather, yes we are still getting snowed on here in good ole Nova Scotia ( twice already in the last 3 days) and we had plans to visit Rob ( friend of the show and veteran of 2 #cigarSundays) and his family on Sunday so my son could work on his 4H project which he will slowly but surely complete, and i was going to join in the fun and maybe learn what he has been learning. So a couple things on that, A. I suck at anything crafty that requires patience and skill as i drastically lack both and 2. my son and i work at totally different paces, which usually results in frustrations for both of us and one of us stomping off for some alone time. I dont want to paint a negative picture of our relationship, but in some ways we are too similar and couldnt be farther apart all at the same time, any of you with sons/daughters most likely know what i am talking about.
So this was either going to be a great idea or end in disaster, happy to say that it was a great day, and although we had a couple of "discussions" about technique it didnt get to the point where either of us was tattling on the other to my wife/referee haha.
So it was to be a #cigarSaturday my friends.
As you can see from my selfie ( which i am starting to get called out on more and more, but boo to that, I am trying to perfect the art of the cigar smoking selfie one Saturday/Sunday at a time haha) the pool is not quite ready to jump in yet, so it was a balmy 4 degrees on Saturday, but i beat the rain and had a glorious time singing songs to the trees.
This week i was feeling more rye/whiskeyish then i was scotchy, so i decided to give 40 creek a whirl. Now this is my wife's favorite whiskey but it really hadnt appealed to me before. I was suprised at how dark it was in the glass, really has a deep caramel color. The nose was not what i was expecting either, because of the color i was expecting those sweet caramel/vanilla overtones, but they were more oaky and spice type aromas. I took a little sip to roll around my mouth and was suprised again at the strong flavor it had. My wife, watching with a bemused look on her face said ' not what you were expecting eh? You need to drink this one with ice to really get the right flavor' So on her advice i added some ice and it did calm down that overwhelming strong flavor. With that on the go, i grabbed, what is a go to cigar for me the Don Thomas Presidente. I felt a strong cigar would not have been the right choice so a medium one would be a better fit. It was a good combination, not great, but good.
I did like the 40 creek but i dont think it is a pair it with a cigar type of whiskey like Dark Horse or Tullamore Dew. And much better with ice then straight.
I am always looking for suggestions for either brown liquors or cigars ( cigars are harder to get in our rural area of course, but good to know about if i get to a cigar store in the near future) so send some my way if you think i should try them.
So far 2 workouts in for the week so chances are high that there will be a #cigarSaturday or #cigarSunday this week so yay!
