So yeah, most of you that might happen to read these musing on my Big Boy Running page get access through my FB account. For the maybe one or two of you that I do not have on FB I will repost an episode that happened this week at the pool:
I get out of the pool this morning, pretty happy as I finally got to 20 lengths in 10 minutes, as i have stalled out at 18 the last couple of weeks. I shower, no one else in the shower, so bonus, and head to where I have left my shoes to get changed. I have been swimming now for at least 2-3 years straight, each time I go, i take everything to the pool deck with me except my shoes, which i leave in the same place each day. I mean who would want a pair of 13.5shoes. Most likely no one. Until today. I get back to the bench and no shoes. I start going through each locker in case a cleaner had been by and lifted them up so they could do the floors. Nothing. I go through each row, checking all the lockers. Nothing. I loose it. I start dropping F bombs like I am getting paid per F. Old men peek out from behind their towels and quickly avoid eye contact. Young men, start walking quickly in other directions. I start getting dressing in a fury of swearing and stuffing my still damp body into my clothes. I started to plan out my tweets, oh the public shaming I was about to unleash!!! I gather up the remainder of my belongs and stomp out into the hall to confront the desk staff in my bare feet, to ask if they saw anyone leave with a pair of 13.5 black dress shoes. They immediately start to laugh, and say that someone turned in a pair of dress shoes, because they had seen them in the same position for multiple days in a row. She further commented that you guys must be on the same schedule but just off in the timing each day. Sigh. I mention that if anyone comes out in the next 15 minutes and complains about a large man having a mental break, it was me, and to offer an apology on my behalf. I quickly jump into my shoes and get the hell out of there. I guess my creature of habitness got the best of me this time.
Yeah so maybe not the best way to handle a stressful situation but all i could think of at the time was having to walk barefoot out to my car, and then either drive home to get new shoes, or hope I still had a pair at the office to wear. I was not really thinking of those that I was affecting with my potty mouth. I know, I know, i typically dont care about such things, but after witnessing a gal go completely off the rails at an event this past week, knocking over pipe and drape, shoving security officers and gates out of her way, and flipping over sandwich boards, all the while cursing a blue streak it got me thinking that maybe I should try and get a handle on this sewer mouth of mine. I think the final straw was my daughter telling me that I swore about 10 times from our house to church the other day. That was a real bad beat for me. So the swear jar will be back in effect starting on Monday. Last time I did the swear jar it was about saving money for our trip this time, it will be about not having to put a single dollar in. Going to be some tough times, but I am going to include everything outside the house because last time was only in the house and out of the house was fair game.
Fingers crossed, we will see where it gets me.
In terms of the gym this week though, although i didnt get there as much as I wanted, I was fairly happy on a couple different fronts.
For the last couple weeks I have been focusing on the times for the indoor triathlon that will be coming up in a couple weeks. You get a 10 minutes swim, a 15 minute bike ride, and a 20 minute run. For each section you are given points based on your distance.
I have been trying to get a 20+ lap swim in for a couple weeks but stall out at 18, so was really happy to finally get the 20 laps in, in under 10 minutes on my thursday swim. I was also able to get my highest miles on the stationary bike this week, in 15 minutes I was able to get 5.78 miles. I am shooting for 6 on that one. In terms of the run, a bit of knee trouble was getting in the way, but have been creeping the speed up the last couple of weeks to keep things between 4.5 -5.2 which is good for me! So all in all a productive week in the gym and the pool.
Would like to get out to run this week, have to keep an eye on the weather though, I hate running in the rain, or the sun hahaha.
